A love story that began in war-torn Germany now resides in Lindsborg. Tilly and Emil "Pete" Peterson, Jr., will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this August. Their marriage vows took place outside her hometown of Hanau in one of the few buildings that survived the Allied bombings: a castle. Pete knew just enough German to be able to speak the right word when asked the big question. He said, "Ja!"

Seeing a need in her community for more child care, Christy Mai opened the Sprout House Learning Center in October of 2016. The vision continues to expand with the help of an energetic staff, a growing partnership with Bethany College, and the after-school learning programs she's designed. The spacious center located at 308 N. 3rd Street is a dream come true for Mai, who oversees the operation that cares for children from infant to school age. "We're enrolling right now!" Mai said with a smile.
