Dala arose early and made his way outside to meet the new day in Lindsborg. He looked east, then west and noticed a fine figure stretched out under his hoofs on the porch. His prognostication was jotted down for all to read.
“You have braved the snow and ice
and dreamed of a warm spring breeze,
but as I gaze upon this day I see
only a brilliant shadow of me.
In Dala Town here in the Smoky Valley
I declare six more weeks of winter it shall be.”
