When the lights come up at the Smoky Valley Theater for the Spring production of Radium Girls, the audience will feel a close connection to the action on stage. Thanks to the set design of Eric and Michele Johnson, the gallery on hand will be thrust into the story of early 20th century women and the dangers of painting glow-in-the-dark watches in a factory.
The play is based on true events and opens Thursday, March 23 with four consecutive shows: Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 pm and a matinee on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the AJ Steinberg Auditorium. Because of the audience seating configuration of theater in the round, there will be limited availability and tickets need to be purchased or reserved online in advance of the show. Pricing is $2 for students and $5 for adults.
Eric and Michele Johnson met in college, doing what they love to do—theater. They stayed connected to the stage as they raised a family in Quinter and directed plays for the high school in northwest Kansas for nearly two decades.
A move to Lindsborg several years ago brought them to another venue, Broadway RFD and then working with Eric Lundstrom, theater director at Smoky Valley High School. Watch the video feature here for Radium Girls. Reserve or purchase tickets online here.
