The taste of history comes alive with a new recipe, designed to celebrate a wheat variety that helped Lindsborg thrive. Turkey Red wheat, grown and milled by Tamara and Jim Dahlsten, was the inspiration behind the Old Mill Lunchbox Cookie. The recipe, created by Carla Wilson of 350 Degrees bakery, blends the Turkey Red with oats, raisins, orange juice and vanilla along with just the right amount of butter and sugar for an old fashioned taste.
The cookie is the calling card for the new exhibit at the Lindsborg Old Mill & Swedish Heritage Museum’s “Not The Same Old Grind” highlighting the importance of the milling industry in McPherson County. Archivist Lenora Lynam and new director Kay Quinn teamed up with staffer Jim Malm to tie the new exhibit to the sweet treat that harkens back to the area’s Swedish heritage.
The cookies are available for a limited time and may be purchased by the dozen for $10 or for six bucks for a package of six, downtown at 350 Degrees bakery (Wed-Sat, 8:30am-3pm), or at the museum (Mon-Sat, 8am-5pm). A portion of the proceeds will support the exhibit, which opened in August.
