The #6 Smoky Valley Vikings traveled to Council Grove to take on #3 Eureka Tornadoes Monday in the opening round of the Class 3A Regional Baseball Tournament.
SV’s starting pitcher Kade Blanchat struck out 5 batters but issued six walks, allowing four hits in the 5-1 loss to Eureka. The Vikings’ lone run came in the top of the 5th inning on Ty Miller’s RBI line drive up the left field line.
The Vikings say goodbye to three seniors this spring: Ty Miller, Brandon Malm and Karter Adam. The trio provided not only solid fielding and fire power at the plate but leadership throughout their time on the diamond.
The Vikings finished the 2021 campaign with a 7-14 record and will look to rebound next season as 14 varsity players return for a winning run in 2022.
