The Haven Wildcats used a smothering defense and found enough offense to leave Lindsborg with a Substate Quarter Final win over the Vikings. Monday night’s basketball game was interrupted by a fire alarm as smoke filled the school’s hallways. Fans were ordered to leave the gym as the Lindsborg Fire Department put out a fire that was apparently caused by an overheated dishwasher in the kitchen. After the smoke cleared the Viking’s offense sputtered while the Wildcats got hot.
The Vikings trailed 21-19 at half and could not find a way in the second to break away, falling to Haven 41-32. The win sends the Wildcats on to play Halstead in the Hesston Substate Tournament Thursday evening.
Smoky Valley seniors, Ellie Brumbaugh and McKinley Johnson led the Vikes with 6-points each while senior Claire Broxterman added 5-points in the loss. Lady Cats Reese Roper had a game high 17-points to lead her team to victory to face Halstead.
The Vikings end the season with the best record the program has posted since 2008, finishing 13-8.
