Under Friday's full harvest moon, the Smoky Valley Vikings defeated Haven 8-0. The two evenly matched teams battled into the 4th quarter tied 0-0 until Sr. Andrew Peters scampered into the end zone from 9 yards out to put SVHS on top. Jr. Kort Sjogren bolted over the goal line on a 2-point conversion play to cap the win.
The Vikings used an 11-play, 88-yard drive in the final minutes of the contest to turn the tide, powered by creative play calling from coach Tim Lambert and a 23-yard pass play from quarterback Jake Lucas to Andrew Peters to give Smoky Valley a chance to break the tie. Peters then scored with 1:14 on the clock. The Viking defense stood their ground on Haven’s final possession to earn the win and improve to 1 and 1 on the season.
Next up, the Vikings host Nickerson at Anderson Stadium Friday evening, September 20th.
